There are a number of firms are in the business of reporting website traffic activity. These companies produce reports (and press releases) announcing which websites are most visited by consumers. Some of the companies in this space are Nielsen//NetRatings, Alexa, Hitwise, comScore and Jupiter Research. All analysis firms use different measurement techniques that vary from surveying users to collecting data from ISP's. The categories that each reports on also varies widely and so the .

We analyzed some of the reports issued by these companies last year and have come up with a list of the top 20 'most visited' food brand/manufacturers sites for 2004. Some caveats: 1) the list is for US traffic 2) estimates are for consumer activity at non-retail brand sites, and 3) remember that while in theory website traffic measurement can be a very precise science, all of these 'most popular lists' are more art than science and remain estimates.
