What is a ‘natural’ food?
A natural food is merely a marketing term which is added to food labels. Food companies label food ‘natural’ or ‘all-natural’ to imply that the food is minimally processed and its ingredients are all natural products. It is a marketing term because there are no real standards that define ‘natural’. In a few countries the term ‘natural’ is defined and enforced but this is not the case in the United States. Because of the lack of standards the natural label is often considered meaningless. This is unlike the word ‘organic’ which has strict definitions.
Many consumers are confused about the difference between natural and organic foods. This article explains the difference.
